How they met:
“Alisha and I met at her senior prom in May 2004.” states LaShawn. “We were attending John Motley Morehead High School in Eden, NC.’The funny thing is that Alisha and I went to the same middle school and high school and never really talked to each other. We didn’t even have friends in common. In fact, I never really noticed or said anything to her until her senior prom.’The prom was located at Brian Park in Greensboro, NC. Both of us had other dates but we rode in the same limo. Actually, nobody in our limo was together…we were just friends sharing the cost. Alisha and her best friend, Twanna, were part of that group.’I had classes with Twanna and after the prom, I told her that I liked her friend who was in the limo with us. She said ‘who, Alisha?’ I said ‘yes’.’Twanna called me one day and got me to tell her what I thought about Alisha. Lo and behold, Alisha was on the phone too.’The next time that I saw Alisha was at Twanna's graduation party. That was the night that we actually went on our first date.We went to see Soul Plane and to Chick-fil-A. That was big for a 16 year old.’I didn't really think that she would go for me because I was younger but we started talking and it lead to a 6 year relationship and marriage.
The Proposal:
‘The proposal is quite funny but romantic at the same time.’Alisha had never been to Disney World so on May 14, 2007, I took her on what she thought was just a normal trip. Before hand, I had gotten the ring and knew exactly when and where I would pop the big question.’When we got to the park, she already had her mind set on staying the entire day so that’s what we did. As the night drew to a close, we went to see the fireworks.’As the fireworks were coming to the big finish, I reached down like I was tying my shoe. She was upset with me because she thought I was missing the fireworks.’That’s when a complete stranger told her to look down and there I was with the ring, on one knee ready to pop the question.’She was shocked and cried but of course she said yes. The rest is history.
The Wedding:
“Our wedding was WONDERFUL” states Alisha.‘It was an evening wedding that started at 5PM. Our wedding procession consisted of fourteen attendants and then I was escorted down the aisle by both of my uncles. ‘LaShawn surprised me and sang me to the altar.‘After the ceremony we all headed out to take pictures while the event center was rearranged for the reception. We had a ball at the reception and afterwards headed to our suite to turn in for the night.”“It was the first time that we really had both of our families together at one time.” adds LaShawn. “That made it very special.
The Honeymoon:
‘We agreed that we did not want to go anywhere too far. We knew that we would be tired and would just want to relax so we went to a Charleston, SC bed and breakfast called Vendue Inn. It was wonderful!‘We enjoyed the sightseeing and the cultural aspects of Charleston.
Advice to Others:
‘Communication, communication, communication! This is key!Always include time for yourselves for relaxation and gathering your thoughts.Make sure to live in the moment throughout the whole process because it goes by quickly”
