How they met:
‘We met at church,’ states Alexandria. ‘A friend pointed him out to me. After months of observing him, I knew there was an attraction on my part. She decided to introduce us by going up to him and asking if he would like to go to a Panthers game. She knew that I had a couple of tickets. He said yes, they were his favorite team. She told him to see me after Church for more information. When he approached me, I was too embarrassed, really too shy and trying to avoid looking desperate, to invite him. I told him that I was planning to sell the tickets but since he had already been given false information, if I could not sell them by the game, I would give them to him and he could take whoever he liked. Thank God I sold the tickets! After that day, he would approach me at Church and initiate conversations. One day he finally asked if I would go to dinner with him. I said ‘yes! ‘ On December 5, 2008, we went to Cabo Fish Taco restaurant in the NoDa area for our first date. Since that night we have known we were going to get married.’
The Proposal:
Robert proposed on our way to New Jersey for what I thought was only going my godson's christening. He had actually been planning a surprise engagement party. We were actually mad at each other when he proposed. We had gotten lost on the way and tension was high. As we were driving through Pennsylvania, he suddenly pulled over into a parking lot. It was dark, snowing and cold. Then he yelled, "Alex, listen. Do you want to marry me? "Although I was angry and a bit confused, I saw he was holding a box open with a ring shining in the dark. I knew I wanted to marry him so of course I said YES!’
The Wedding:
‘The wedding was high with emotions. It was amazing that neither of us cried. We looked around to see people we have not seen or spoken to in years. It was great! We were so honored to have so many people come out to support this wonderful, God ordained union. We tried to keep it as simple as possible, but ended up inviting over 200 people and having over 160 show up. It was not as simple as we had thought! We wanted to have a party atmosphere. The wedding ceremony began at 7:30p.m. After the ceremony we had a dessert party where everyone got a chance to mix, mingle, dance, and enjoy each other. He surprised me with a voice recording introducing our first dance. It was beautiful! He confessed his love to me again in front of everyone and asked me for our first dance as a married couple. I loved it!!We created a skit that gave the keys to marriage. It talked about being in a relationship with God and reminded people that maintain a healthy union you need good communication, love, respect, security, submission and trust. By using all of them, you receive God's favor.’
The Honeymoon:
‘Our honeymoon was exactly what we needed – REST and a chance to get away! We went to Kissimee, Florida. We stayed at the Westgate Vacation Resorts. It was so nice to be in the Florida sun and enjoy the great food! Bubba Gump Shrimp Boat was our favorite! We went golfing, to the beach, laid by the poolside and swam. We went on a helicopter ride and to Universal Studios. There was so much eating and more! It was a great week off and away from our everyday lives. It was hard to come back but at the same we were ready to start our lives together in our own home. FINALLY, we were under one roof!’
