Adrienne Hall and Anthony Phillips are pleased to announce their plans to marry on June 18, 2011.
Adrienne, the daughter of Oscar & Mollette Hall, is a native of Indianapolis, Ind. Her alma mater is North Carolina A&T State University. She is a doctoral student at Purdue University in West Laffayette, Ind. Anthony, the son of Pressley and Cynthia Phillips, is a native of Charlotte, N.C. His alma mater is Central Piedmont Community College, and he is a network engineer.
Adrienne and Anthony met in 1998 when they were both studying to be engineers and serving as officers in the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE).
They became engaged on March 19, 2010.
Anthony stated: “I planned a weekend trip to Chicago, under the guise of it being a birthday trip. We stayed at The W Hotel, Chicago Loop.
"The night after her birthday, we went to a nice Indian restaurant, which served one of our favorite cuisines, then to see Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Orchestra at the Chicago Symphony Hall. That part was special because our first date was to the symphony in Charlotte.
"After the performance, we ate dessert at another restaurant and went back to our hotel. When we got back to the room, I presented her with a photo album entitled 'The Adventures of Adrienne and Anthony, Vol One.'
"The last page contained a 2D barcode. When scanned it reads, 'This has been an excellent 3 years, 3 months and 4 days! Are you ready for the next journey?' As she read it, I got down on one knee, asked her to marry me and take the next journey together! She said YES!"
