Aja J. Pharr and Shawntez  M. Davis are pleased to announce their plans to wed on July 9, 2011.

Aja, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony J. Pharr, is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina. Her alma mater is Winston-Salem State University and she is an English Teacher at Rocky River High School in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System.

Shawntez, the son of Cassandra Swaringen Christian, Is a native of Albemarle, North Carolina. His alma mater is Livingstone College and he is a Social Security Administration Representative.

Aja and Shawntez met on July 13, 2009. “Shawntez’s fraternity brother was hosting a mix and mingle at his home” recalls Aja. “We both attended. We talked to each other almost the entire time.  He asked for my number so we could talk some more.  We haven’t missed a day talking since the first day.”

They became engaged on July 15, 2010.

The proposal was something that took a lot of thought on my part” states Shawntez, “because Aja likes to be involved in EVERYTHING.”

‘The first person I ran it by was my mom. She said, "Yea, go for it. If you love her, then do it." The hard part; however, it was somewhat easy because I get along with her folks, was to ask her mom and dad. I gave them a call the night before I did it, and both of them said, "We would love to have you as a son and law." That gave me comfort like never before.

‘Aja had been planning a birthday party for me at Dave and Busters at Concord Mills, She had no idea that I was going to ask her for her hand in marriage on my birthday. In fact, no one knew except my close friends who were on the birthday guest list.

‘We were all just sitting at the restaurant after dinner that night talking and having a good time.

‘When I got ready to ask her, she began looking around thinking I was preparing to give a birthday speech. She had the "I wish he would shut up," head down position.

‘What made it so funny is that when I was on my knee, she was still not even looking at me. She had turned around and started talking to one of our friends. When she turned back around, to her surprise, there I was on one knee asking her to be my wife.

‘It was funny because she is always talking about how I do not know how to keep secrets, and I never surprise her.  Well, the tears and inability to speak said it all!”

They plan to marry at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC.
