Shaneka, the daughter of Brenda Maybin and Andrew Maybin, is a native of Newberry, S.C. Her alma mater is Johnson C. Smith University, and she is employed with Bank of America.
William, the son Jerry Jackson and Constance Jackson, is a native of Newbern, N.C. He is a student at Strayer University and is employed with Hanes GEO Components.
Both reside in the Charlotte area.
Shaneka and William met Valentine’s week of 2003 when they were hired on the same day at Foot Action while attending college. They became best friends and started dating in 2006. William proposed on Valentine’s Day 2010.
“My mother had called me an unusual number of times that day to ask how I was doing and how my Valentine’s Day was going,” Shaneka recalls. “I began to worry, however, when William told me we needed to talk.
“William had taken me out for a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. When we returned home, I decided to change into something more comfortable. That’s when William came into my room, sat me down and told me we needed to talk.
“I immediately thought that something was wrong. I didn’t even notice that he was already on one knee before he started to talk.
“He began by saying how much he really loved me and how he couldn’t imagine his life without me. He then reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a ring box. By then I was in shock and already crying.
“He opened the box to reveal a 2-carat, princess-cut, white gold ring and told me it represents our future together as one and his loyalty and faithfulness to me. Then he said… Will you marry me?… After a minute of crying tears of joy I said YES!!!
“I later learned he had called my mom the day before to ask her for her blessings and she was anxious to finally share the news.
“Through the years we have always stood beside one another and truly feel that love conquers all. We are extremely excited about our future together.”
